"My
husband
and
I
grew
up
in
Southeast
Nebraska
and
love
to
return
there
for
Humanities
talks.
Our
last
trip
there
was
extra
special
as
we
discovered
one
of
the
state's
best
kept
secrets.
Many
are
familiar
with
Beatrice
for
the
State
Developmental
Center
it
has
had
throughout
the
years.
However,
knowing
the
whole
history
of
the
ten-acre
site
next
to
it
was
a
sheer
pleasure
to
learn
and
experience.
Just
one
mile
east
of
Beatrice
you'll
find
this
site
which
has
been
included
on
the
National
Register
of
Historic
Places
for
both
its
significance
in
Nebraska
history
as
well
as
the
architectural
integrity
of
the
early
20th
Century
farm
buildings.
The
site
was
once
a
working
farm
complete
with
dairy
and
the
institutional
type
building
that
housed
the
residents
who
worked
on
the
farm
to
supply
the
food
for
the
State
Developmental
Center.
When
laws
forbid
the
working
farm
concept,
the
property
was
put
up
for
sale.
The
institutional
type
building
was
transformed
into
an
incredible
Bed &
Breakfast.
It
now
includes
six
themed
guestrooms!
We
love
to
watch
Antique
Roadshow
on
television
when
we
take
the
time
to
watch
television.
Staying
here
was
one
of
the
best
antiquing
experiences
we've
found.
Period
furniture
is
used
throughout
the
house.
We
especially
enjoyed
the
old-fashioned
parlor
with
its
impressive
oak
fireplace.
There
we
enjoyed
a
trip
around
the
world
by
viewing
magnificent
photos
on
one
of
the
first
viewfinders
ever
made.
Each
photo
appeared
three
dimensional!
We
treasured
our
time
in
the
main
floor
Garden
Room.
A
walk
through
the
french
doors
was
an
authors
delight!
There
I
found
a
private
veranda
and
enjoyed
the
peacefulness
of
birds
chirping
as
the
sun
rose.
The
view
of
the
pond
was
incredible.
A
return
to
this
atmosphere
is a
MUST
as I
know
a
personal,
peaceful retreat
here
would
end
in
lots
of
manuscript
accomplished.
The
spacious
dining
room
included
a
huge
breakfast
complete
with
chocolate
eclairs
and
even
fresh
berries.
Kevin
rarely
tells
me
he
cannot
eat
another
bite,
but
that
was
our
expressions
as
we
moved
on
to
tour
the
upstairs.
Every
turn
of
this
home
has
had
attention,
as I
came
to
the
top
of
the
stairs
there
was
a
bride
and
a
groom
mannequin.
It
was
unbelievable
how
much
the
bride's
wedding
dress
resembled
my
own
Victorian
style
dress
worn
some
twenty
plus
years
ago.
If
you'd
like
to
hand
feed
the
llamas
or
horse,
you
can
do
that
too!
The
historic
dairy
barn
is
now
utilized
for
receptions.
How
fun
it
would
be
to
actually
attend
a
foot
stomping
dance
there
on a
nice
summer
day!
The
Carriage
House
Bed
&
Breakfast
is
definitely
an
incredible
gem."
