"This
week I
ended my
fall
journey
of
speaking
engagements
for
schools
with a
true
treat...a
girl's
night
out with
my best
friends.
I'd been
on the
road to
Stuart
and
Rushville
schools
with my
94 year
young
Orphan
Train
friend
Lela
Newcombe
and we
were
ready
for some
relaxation.
We met
90 year
young
Lois and
her
daughter
Sharon
at the
quiet,
homey
monolithic
dome,
'Gateway
to the Sandhills'
Bed and
Breakfast!
Lela
enjoyed
the Dear
Deer
room. It
was
perfect
for her.
She'd
gotten
so
excited
seeing
the real
deer
along
the
sandhills
path
that
this
quiet
sanctuary
with a
queen
sized
bed and
peaceful
decor
allowed
her to
almost
oversleep!
Lois and
Sharon
enjoyed
the
Hook,
Line,
and
Sinker
room
with a
set of
twin
sized
beds.
All
rooms
were in
comfortable
downstairs
settings
making
it
perfect
for our
elderly
buddies
who have
a hard
time
with
stairs I
recuperated
from a
nasty
migraine
headache
to full
health
in their
Pleasant
Pheasant
room. It
also had
a queen
sized
bed and
a
restful
decor.
The
sheepskin
on the
chair
had a
special
story
all of
its own
coming
all of
the way
from
Switzerland.
Many
stories
were
shared
about
their
unique
lamp,
warming
fireplace
and just
how the
home
came to
be. My
Orphan
Train
rider
friends
had
never
had the
opportunity
to rest
in a bed
and
breakfast
before.
The good
ole'
country
breakfast
complete
with
sausage,
bacon
and
pancakes
was
icing on
the
cake.
Lois
described
her stay
in four
simple
words,
"I
REALLY
liked
it!" Lela
was more
elaborate
with her
words
remarking
over and
over
again,
"I just
can't
believe
it! I'm
so glad
I came.
I would
have
never
guessed
such
beauty
in a
round
home.
This was
such a
fabulous
time."
When
making
reservations,
give
Lareda
proper
notice
and
she'll
write a
poem for
your
special
friend.
With our
CD just
released
this
week it
seemed
very
appropriate
to stay
in this
special
"Hidden
Treasure"
of
Nebraska."
