"Lois was placed with her little sister, Merle. Six months into the placement the prosperous miller and his wife wished they'd chosen a boy and a girl. Somebody had to go! Find out who!"

"Thank you so much for being our guest speaker last Thursday.  Ninety-four people attended and they were very pleased with the presentation on the orphan trains.  Please express our thanks, too, to Sarah and Ellie for all that they did and especially to Lela.  Hearing a person who was actually an orphan train rider made the presentation really come to life.  Keep up the great work." - Diane Jensen, United Methodist Church Women - Omaha (7/14/2008)

"This program was very well done.  Charlotte is very knowledgeable of the orphan train." - Newman Grove Library (7/27/08)

Unlikely Answers

Mother/Bichon duo bring their inspirational true tale to the forefront of a teen surviving almost five years with a tick-borne mysterious illness many are unaware.

Charlotte and Teddy share their personal testimony of overcoming great adversity.  In a short five-year time span Charlotte’s daughter, Sarah, has fought for her life with the strength of her family and close friends.  Be inspired and encouraged to know as one friend said:  “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles that one has overcome while trying to succeed.”

We may not choose the circumstances that we go through; but we DO choose the attitude that takes us through those circumstances.  When life happens to you do you choose to be positive or negative?  Do you use the storms of life as an excuse to fail or the reason to succeed?  Sarah chose to become a co-author and illustrator as a teen.  Some days she can barely lift a pen.  With a positive mental attitude, perseverance, and the right relationships you can go through anything life hands you.   We must accept that  “Everything happens for a reason –God is in control.

You'll find something to love on every page of author Charlotte Endorf's "Unsung Neighbors". It begins with a splash of remarkable color you'll never forget, witnessing the irises amid the sand of the Nebraska sandhills on the very front cover. Add to this short stories that are fun to read several at a time or just one a day. You're sure to find the stories powerful messages of inspiration, motivation and hope. This remarkable book is one woman's tale of her travels and passion. It intertwines relationships and unexpected experiences bringing unbelievable meaning to life. Lose yourself in every short story. Plan the perfect book club get-together. Top it off with a visit from the author herself!

Make your meeting meaningful!
  • Serve healthy snacks.  Try this:  Cut up a pear, cut up cheese, drizzle with a small amount of honey.  This is what is often served in Italy (a destination Charlotte hopes to visit one day)!  Simple and very delicious.  Serve on pretty paper plates with paper forks to make your meeting easy.
  • Set the tone.  Pick a CD from those at the chain stores with waterfalls or very relaxing music.  Think spas...where you often find Charlotte!
  • Decor.  Keep it simple.  Plan around the holiday.  Is it Valentine's Day?  St. Patrick's Day?  Charlotte's favorite color is lavender.
Discussion Guide for Unsung Neighbors:

     1. What does the title, Unsung Neighbors, represent for you?
     2. What is the significance of opening with Kipling's poems The Thousandth Man and If?
     3. After reading each of the short stories, who did you most relate to and why?
     4. Did you personally know any of the people in the book before reading it?
     5. Have you tried any of the recipes?  If so, which ones?  Were they any good?
     6. Did you enjoy the photos?  Did you think they enhanced the book or made it more effective?
     7. Did you learn from the book?  What?
     8. Did you visit any of the websites listed?

I'd strongly suggest planning ahead.

  • Get the books.

  • Have a special book club meeting with music, pears and my favorite color to discuss the eight questions.

  • For the same cost as my other talks ($5 per person), I supply a door prize. I would come to the next meeting to answer questions about how you can be that author you always wanted to be. I'd follow-up with any questions that result from the prior meeting.  I'll get all of you started on your way to your dreams.  It's only you standing in your way.  If I can do it, you can too!

  • Add donated salads and we'll have a fantastic meal and a great time.  Invite friends and you'll add to your book club...for sure!
